Paintball CO2 tanks contain pressurized carbon dioxide, which is used to power paintball guns. They are usually cylindrical and airtight, with a pin valve to regulate the flow of gas into the gun. Tanks can be refillable or disposable. Refillable tanks have capacities from eight to 20 ounces, while disposable tanks range from four to 12 ounces.
Chromolly tanks are lighter and more compact than aluminum tanks, making them easier to transport and refill. They are used for lower capacity and disposable tanks.
Capacity: Choose a tank size suitable for your type of play. CO2 tanks are measured in terms of capacity rather than physical size, so lower-capacity tanks are not necessarily smaller. A 20-ounce tank fires up to 1100 shots, which should be enough for extended games.
Valve: Choose a tank with a firmly installed pin valve. Look for one that you can easily remove and screw back on for refilling. Make sure it locks into place when not in use and keeps the tank tightly sealed.
