While it DOES hold water, one of the plastic QR buckles on the strap broke the 1st time I used it, so it's functionality as a canteen is limited.
I need to add this update to my original review. I emailed Coleman's customer service and explained the problem with this product. They emailed back, saying that a replacement was in the mail. I assumed they meant a new buckle or perhaps the entire strap assembly. Less than a week later, a box arrived with a new canteen.. *NO CHARGE*. Now THAT is customer service!

This is the only 2-liter insulated canteen that I could find and it was exactly what I was looking for. Light weight. Coleman high-quality item.
