As a kendo practitioner (1st Kyu), I would highly recomend this shinai. This is my fourth and now main shinai. My senseis and comrades have checked it and also aproved. It's bamboo pieces are very nicely shaped, the leather parts are fine.
Interesting thing I found out is that because the tsuka is a little bit shorter than most shinais, the "blade" part is about 1 inch longer, giving you a pinch more of range. On the other hand, you will feel this piece is a little heavier toward the tip, but it's just fine because makes it feel more like a real sword.

I bought this product for my son, and it is of good quality for the price. The leather parts were nice and tight, even though it squeaks a bit, it is not that bad. They say you're supposed to remove the red stings, but when we did this with another shinai he bought, the slats split apart, (and we assume it's because the leather parts were too loose)So we decided to leave them on this one, even though he won't be hitting anyone, nor will he hit anything with it. And even though when he slid the red string up till it was loose, the slats still stayed in place, we still want to keep them in place. So, over all this was a good buy, and the bag is of good quality, too, Even though we had a hard time figuring out how it opens.

This arrived way before I expected it to, and it's a pretty good quality jik-do (I take Kum-do, the Korean form, rather than Kendo and because of that may use different terms) and my intstructor approved of it. The bag was a touch dissipointing, didn't realize I would have to remove the guard everytime I used the bag, not sure if thats how all bags like this are? Overall though, it's pretty much the same sword I would have gotten from my instructor, and with the bag added for 5 bucks, totally worth the time and money.

I have been using martial arts products for many years and this Shinai as shipped to me is the best I have ever seen thus far, no tweaking involved. It's weight is perfect and the company that sells it is true to their word. A perfect fit for any beginning or well trained martial artist.
