Very nice for the price - Craig Knudsen, Jan 05, 2008

I am very satisfied with this purchase. Heats up very quickly with a good solid whistle. It's just what I was looking for at a very reasonable price. (Reviews of other teakettles complained the whistle was not loud enough.) I would have given 5 stars except for two minor issues. (1) You need to be careful when pouring since it can splash a bit when pouring. (2) It is somewhat difficult to get all the water out when you're done (which is apparently important to the product's longevity.) You basically have to turn it completely upside down with the top off to get all the water out.

Kitchen Aid Tea Kettle - Christie Brown, Dec 21, 2007

I am very happy with this tea kettle. The only thing I could see improved is that the lid is a bit difficult to get off and put on. It fits very tightly (which I realize is good!) and would be difficult for someone with pain in their hands to manage. Works fine for me.

Well made product but some idiosyncracies - Lorenzo C., Dec 17, 2007

I purchased this at a local store after handling all the others in stock (about a dozen). It was/is in my opinion the best constructed kettle of the selection. After using it now for over a year, I agree with a few reviewers points:

* Whistle is extremely loud and persistent, except when it isn't. For some reason, it occasionally fails to seal properly and thus the steam fails to signal that boiling has been reached. This happens rarely now as I check the cap, but I'm not sure I've found the cause and effect relationship. So I make it a point not to put it on and "forget" (since that technique cost me my previous kettle anyway).

* The handle can indeed become too warm/hot when the kettle has been on for a while. The minimalist rubber grip (which I like even if it's not totally functional) doesn't cover the entire handle so this could be an issue. Solution: turn down the heat after it reaches boiling.

* Removing top lid is not convenient if there is already hot water in the kettle, but this is minor and given the kettle's other qualities. I fill from the spout most of the time anyway since our filtered water dispenser easily fits in the spout.

My only other quibbles with the kettle is that stainless steel seems to take longer to reach a boil than other materials. Or maybe it's the shape... The other thing is the shape in that you have to tip it over quite a bit when the water gets low. Some other designs that position the spout for easier dispensing had appeal for me, but in the end they seemed to trade off things like build quality for design so in the end I opted for this traditional style. Again, these are quibbles.

Compared to the construction quality of other kettles I've owned or seen at the store, the KitchenAid easily qualifies as top-notch and is worth the extra couple bucks. I'm very happy with this kettle and do recommend it.
