About Exercise Bikes Despite the competition from trendy new fitness inventions, exercise bikes continue to be popular options for home exercise. They offer the same aerobic benefits of riding a bicycle at any time, in any weather, without leaving the comfort and safety of home. Exercise bikes don't take up much space, require little or no balance or coordination, and can provide an effective workout for all levels of users, from beginners to serious competitors. While the same could be said for a number of other types of home fitness equipment, the exercise bike is one of the few that allows you to watch television or read a magazine while you work out. For many people, having convenient access to quality exercise equipment is critical to sticking with a long-term exercise program. Average Rating of 3.50 out of 42 reviews
Rating : Problems with the first bike, but second one okay... - RichardsRoper, Nov 21, 2009
I received this bike very proptly and like almost everyone else the box was open, beat up, the seat shaft was broken during shipping, and 2 screws fell out from somewhere. They had sent the wrong console AFTER I put the entire thing together! I also actually took the console apart twice to see if I was really missing something??? I wasn't - wrong console! So, I notified Amazon right away for a return, tore down the bike, and repacked it to the best of my ability, which was pathetic! UPS picked it up the next day. I had a replacement bike the very next day... talk about quick service! I think Amazon really wanted me to have this bike:) For now, I assembled the second bike in less than 30 min, since I just had plenty of experience with the first bike, and everything is good... except for the fan. It just turns on when it wants too and doesn't turn off unless unplugged. Does anyone know something I don't? Overall, very fast customer service with UPS and Amazon, the bike seems really nice and quiet. Yes, seat is pretty hard... any suggestions?
Thanks,
Liz
Rating : Solid Bike - Blackie, Nov 05, 2009
I wanted a home exercise bike that was really solid and affordable but without an excess of bells & whistles. This bike seemed to fit the bill.
It assembles pretty easily, but I didn't think the instructions were especially helpful. The fan is flaky, but everything else works great.
If you're a really big guy (like over 6'2"), you might have a size issue with the bike. That's because I think the seat adjustments might not get you far enough away from the handlebars. Just be sure to check that out before you buy.
Otherwise I am very happy with the purchase. I use it almost every day.
Rating : My 8 Month Review - A thru H, Oct 17, 2009
Like many others, my new bike arrived in a torn and battered box. Problem here is that Schwinn uses a rather cheap box, with poor packing and protection of the bike to endure shipping. The shipping company obviously was not too careful as well. The bike sustained some damage. My rating at this point would have been a 1 star. However, Schwinn customer service provided free replacement parts and fairly quick shipping. Seems to me that a proper box could eliminate a lot of problems and be much cheaper than replacing parts. Shouldn't they know this, too?
When I finally got it assembled and took my first ride, everything actually worked well! For the money the bike offers some very good features. I have been riding 3 to 4 times a week for about 8 months. Nothing has failed, yet. The "computer" works well, though the little fan never puts out much air. I really appreciate how quiet this bike is. I can run my tv volume on low, because the bike is so quiet. The pedal action is very smooth. This model bike would never last long in a public health club. But, here in my home I use it often, while careful not to abuse it.
So, my bike is holding up very well and I am impressed...a solid 4 star rating.
Rating : Mine works, but will yours? - Russ, Sep 16, 2009
I purchased this exercise bike in February 2008. Like many other reviewers, the shipping box was pretty beat up, and the bike did not work after assembling it. I called Schwinn, and they sent out someone to repair it for free, since the new bike was under warranty. The technician replaced a pretty hefty steel part (roughly an inch in diameter) that apparently managed to snap in half during the shipping process. No wonder the box was in such bad shape!
All in all, I'm happy with the bike. It was priced reasonably, somewhere between the cheap models on sale at the local discount stores and the high-priced ones at exercise equipment retailers. I've been using it two or three times a week for over 1.5 years now, and it's still performing well.
Would I buy again, though? Maybe, maybe not. A number of other reviewers have commented about how apparent damage during the shipping process didn't reveal itself until a few years down the line, after the warranty likely has expired. Looking back, I feel like I dodged a bullet on this purchase, at least so far. It might break tomorrow.

Schwinn 131 Upright Exercise Bike
First off, my exercise bike arrived in a timely fashion in good shape. Some other reviews have mentioned that the product was damaged in transit. I experienced none of these issues.
Both the vertical and horizontal seat adjustments are quick and easy to use. I am 6'4" and my wife is 5"6 but the bike can fit either of us comfortably due to these adjustments.
My only complaint has to do with the seat itself. It was not comfortable for me. But fortunately, you can replace seat with any bicycle seat as the post on this unit is the same as what you find on your street/mountain bike.
The display is easy to read and the programs are numerous. The internal operation of the bike is SILENT! I am able to watch TV with my family and it does not distract them at all.
If you are looking for a solid exercise bike and can't or don't want to spend $3000 for a Lifecycle brand unit I would strongly suggest the Schwinn 131 Upright Exercise Bike!
