About Sevylor
In 1948 in Vitry, a small suburb of Paris, France, Berco Grimbert created an electronics company called Societe Electronique de Vitry, or SEVY for short. Soon, a friend of Grimbert's from New York commissioned SEVY to produce high frequency welding machines capable of fusing a new material called PVC (poly vinyl chloride). SEVY's machines worked very well and the American friend developed a very successful business manufacturing swimming pool related products. He then taught SEVY how to work with PVC.

One of the first PVC products SEVY produced was inflatable bathtub called Dou Dou. It was an instant hit in postwar France--mothers could bathe their children even where no facilities were available. The media hailed Dou Dou as a significant invention. Soon, SEVY added small pools and flotation devices such as rings, beach balls, and inflatable swim jackets to its product line. Safe, hygienic products, made of PVC and designed for portability, durability and convenience, became the SEVY trademark.

The company quickly outgrew its small facilities in Vitry. Mr. Grimbert accepted an attractive offer from the French government to take over a defunct textile factor in the tiny Alsatian village of Buhl. After establishing its new headquarters, the company added the letters "lor" to its name, and became Sevylor. In French, l'or means gold. By coincidence, or possibly fate, Sevylor has proven to be "as good as gold" to its owners, retailers, consumers, and employees.

Great for a beginner like me! - S. Lorenzen, Sep 14, 2009

Im not an expert kayaker, but think the Sevylor Inflatable Pointer K1 is awesome for someone starting out. It is easy to inflate and store, also easy to cary. I can easily cary it by myself down the block to our river access. I haven't taken it on any sort of white water as of yet, unless the waves from jet skies and speed boats count. It is easy to manuver, not tippy at all, and has awesome on board storage for small trips. Not water proof, as most inflatable kayaks aren't but keeps you warm enough not to care about the dampness, if your not using your skirt. I highly recomend it, totaly worth the money!

Wonderful Kayak - Stephen M. Fabin Jr., Aug 31, 2009

We purchased the Sevylor Pointer K1 for my 10 year old son, and have loved it since day one. We first tried it out in my fathers pond, and my son, who has never kayaked before, looked like a pro within minutes. He loved it. We have since used it through the marshy lagoons on Presque Isle, in Erie Pa, and will be soon using it on a river in Lower Pennsylvania. I am totally happy with the unit. Very easy to use, and VERY easy to transport. Nothing like having a kayak that you can fit in the trunk of a car. With the coleman cordless air pump that we bought with it, you can be ready to go in under 5 minutes! The only negative I have is that the instruction booklet is a little vague in it's instructions, but once you get through them the first time, you wont need them anymore.

Does not last- very poor quality - M. Traylor, Jul 21, 2009

I have had mine for less than a year and one of the bladders is shot. For no reason the seams blow out faster than I can fix them. Replacements can't be found anywhere and the customer service is nonexistent. $300 down the drain. I really really don't want to be in the middle of a lake and hear that pop-whoooooooooosooosh sound again.

Sevylor Inflatable Pointer K1 Kayak - Terri A. Schlicht, Jul 04, 2009

Enjoy the portablity. Have been having fun with the kids on the river. Only thing is it tends to bend in the middle, lets water in but overall we enjoy it very much

Excellent Kayak! - Warspite2, May 06, 2009

I got this kayak on sale at Academy for $199 and that was a super low price for this boat. I highly doubt one could find a better inflatable Kayak then this one, especially looking at the price. Like a hard shell but it is all inflatable. I have used it 8 times already... in the ocean, lakes, waterways, bayous, you name it. It tracks excellent and it will glide too especially in calmer waters. Its extremely stable, I had it in 3 foot white caps in large open water with 20-25mph head winds and had no problems at all. It cutts through the wind and waves without a lot of effort. It has a lot of storage space in the stern and on top the bow. A great quality boat that will take a lot to puncture. It is not as fast as my sisters hard shell Pelican Pursuit 100, but it is more stable and has more storage. In the end, it is fast enough and I am willing to bet it is one of the most versatile kayaks you can get for the money. I would take this boat anywhere in any kind of water, rough, calm, open, or inland whatever. It only has 3 chambers and inflates in about 4 min with a manual bellows foot pump I got for $5.00 also at Academy. It deflates in about 1 min, seriously. If you want an inflatable kayak, you can't go wrong with this one! I like to think quality is similar to the higher priced $500+ inflatable kayaks such as the Advanced Frame. A 5-star on this one so I had to let others know about it.
