Light wear you need to use both Hands - A. Manners, Apr 19, 2008

I have used the Streamlight Trident Super-Bright Head Lamp to walk my two large black dogs at night. It provides light where I could not hold a flash light. It was also useful to focus light in small areas when I was building my home theater computer. The light can be tilted down and is easy to adjust and wear.

Streamlight Success - MEI, Feb 09, 2008

I am an avid night-time snowshoer. I had this old head lamp that served its purpose in providing light, but the small joint that held the lamp at certain angles for use soon lost its taught properties. I had to walk holding the light facing forward or else it would shine straight in my eyes.
While debating whether or not to use duct tape, I simply decided to try out different head lamps and to be sure that I avoided the problem I had previously. I went through two more head lamps before I found the Streamlight. Not only did the three light settings serve me better in the dark, but I finally found a head lamp that doesn't bounce when I walk. The Streamlight clicks into the angle you would like and stays there. No more holding my headlamp as I'm gallivanting through the dark!
The three LED lights combined with the bright spotlight meet all the needs of the night-time snowshoer. The single top strap is also one of the features of the Streamlight that I really enjoy because it holds more of the weight of the head lamp so there is less slippage when I decide to run or be acrobatic. There is also a comfortable forehead pad that makes wearing the Streamlight without a hat more convenient. The on/off button is easy to find, and it only takes 3 AAA batteries.
I have been extremely pleased with this product and its simple yet user-friendly features. It is also great for campers, mechanics and under-the-cover readers.

Great for Hiking at Night - M. Ardakanian, Sep 09, 2007

Hiking the trails in the dark at Yosemite NAtiona Park with this was so great. Very secure and comfortable design. The tilt is very useful. Great price too.

Not as good as I had hoped - M. Crandall, Jan 25, 2007

I purchased this headlight two months ago as a "Christmas Gift" for myself. Since then I've used it on several night hikes and also around the house for projects that involve low-light areas. (Putting insulation in the attic, and hanging a hook in the closet.)

The headset fits comfortably on my rather large head, and the elastic band keeps it in place. It does not flop around and adjusting the beam is a snap. The power switch is large enough to be easily used while wearing winter gloves. The unit appears to be well built and efficient; I'm still using the first set of batteries.

However, the headlight has several major issues. My biggest complaint is with the incandescent bulb. One might expect that a combo headlight's incandescent bulb would actually be brighter than the LED bulbs, but that's not the case with this headlight. In fact, you could argue that the LED's are brighter! This defeats the whole purpose of including the incandescent bulb, since the LED bulbs allow for much longer battery life when compared to incandescents.

In real world use, I never find myself using the underpowered incandescent bulb on this headlamp. As for the LED bulbs, their light is surprisingly diffuse. My brother-in-law bought a LED headlamp at a discount store for half the price of this model, and his LED bulbs produce a much more focused beam. While this really becomes a matter of personal preference, I found that after using both units on a night hike, I much prefered my brother-in-laws model!

Finally, the unit comes with an additional rubber strap. However, I could not figure out what the heck you are supposed to do with it. After puzzling over it for a good ten minutes, I let my wife puzzle over it, and she couldn't figure it out either. There simply does not seem to be a way to attach the rubber strap to the headlamp, and there are absolutely no documentation or instructions included in the package.

Bottom Line: Its a decent enough headlamp that I didn't return it, but I was really hoping for more.
