Kinds of Shin Guards include the following:Hard plastic Hard plastic shin guards are preferred by experienced players because of their light weight, stiffness, and superior protection. They disperse the shock upon impact, protecting the shins more effectively. They usually do not come with ankle stirrups for ankle protection. Most hard plastic shin guards are too big to fit younger players. Soft Soft shin guards are more comfortable. They wrap around the legs easily, giving adequate protection to the entire shin area. They usually come with inserts in varying thicknesses that disperse and absorb shock. Soft shin guards also come with stirrups with padded ankles for Achilles protection. Foam Foam shin guards are also called sin pads. They offer great protection and absorb impacts by cushioning them. However, sin pads are bulkier and more restrictive than the other types of shin guards. Foam shin guards are also heavier than soft shin guards. |

Length: Choose shin guards that are not too long so that they restrict knee movement and cut into the instep. They should give protection from just above the instep until three inches below the knee. Make sure the pads cover the front portion and half of the sides of the shin. Heel stirrup: Look for shin guards with heel stirrups to prevent the pads from creeping up your legs.
