Sleeping bag liners are soft fabric bags that add comfort and insulation to sleeping bags. They usually come in standard rectangular and mummy shapes to fit into common sleeping bag styles. Sleeping bag liners have the same pouch-like construction as sleeping bags, which allows them to fit inside sleeping bags to provide an extra layer of protection for extremely cold nights.
Kinds of Sleeping Bag Liners include the following:
Fleece
Fleece liners are made from unpolished sheepskin. They are soft and lumpy, which makes them very comfortable on the back. They can also be rather bulky and difficult to carry.
Nylon
Nylon liners are made from woven or non-woven synthetic fibers. They are highly waterproof and offer excellent insulation. Some weaves are non-breathable, which may make the inside of the sleeping bag hot and cramped.
Polyester
Polyester is also made of synthetic fibers, although lighter and more breathable. They provide adequate insulation, warmth, and comfort for most weather conditions. They are also very durable and can withstand frequent washing and drying.
Silk
Silk liners are very soft, smooth, and comfortable. They are ideal for camping in warmer conditions, as they lack insulating capacities. Double layers are often used because most silk samples are too thin to provide much warmth.
Fit: Choose a sleeping bag liner that fits properly into your sleeping bag. If you want extra padding, you can get a size slightly bigger to let the sides overlap and create more insulating layers. Avoid liners that are too small, though. They restrict your movement and create unused space in your sleeping bag.
Durability: Make sure your sleeping bag liner is made of tough fabrics that will not tear or fray easily. Make sure it can withstand frequent washing and drying. Look for one that dries quickly to prevent it from getting damaged by rain and moisture.
