Snorkel Vest : What is it?
| Snorkel vests provide flotation and warmth while snorkeling. They are usually made up of an inflatable bladder encased in an elastic fabric, secured to the body with Velcro straps around the waist. When deflated the bladder lies flat against the fabric allowing it to expand when inflated without affecting the fit of the vest. Most snorkel vests are bright yellow or green to make them visible underwater. Snorkel vests are usually worn deflated, and inflated only when the user needs to take a rest.

Children’s snorkel vests
Children’s snorkel vests are small and designed for children. They are worn inflated at all times, since children generally have limited flotation skills. They usually come with additional crotch straps to better secure the vest to the body. The inflation tube is usually closed and kept away from the child’s hands to keep them from accidentally deflating the vest.
Adult Snorkel Vests
Adult Snorkel Vests are large and made to fit adult divers. Most are designed for people weighing 90 to 220 pounds. They are usually secured with waist straps, although some models also have fixed or removable crotch straps. |

Fit: Choose a snorkel vest that fits properly over your body. It does not have to be snug, but vests that are too loose can be heavy and distracting. Children’s vests should be a bit tighter to keep them from wiggling out. Look for a vest with adjustable straps to allow you to find the best fit.
Buoyancy: Chose a snorkel vest that offers the right amount of buoyancy for your diving skills. If you have good flotation abilities, you can do with a low-buoyancy vest.
