Snowboard Binding : What is it?
| Snowboard bindings are snowboarding gears used to connect the snowboarding boots to the snowboard to keep the riders attached to and in control of it. The basic snowboard bindings are strap bindings that consist of baseplates and ratchet-type buckles for fastening on to the boots. Snowboard bindings are worn depending on the riders’ riding stance. Regular riders stand with their left foot forward on the snowboard, while “goofy-foot” riders stand with their right foot forward. Different types of snowboard bindings are available for the different types and styles of snowboarding. |

Kinds of Snowboard Bindings include the following: |
Strap bindings
- Strap bindings are made from soft materials.
- They are the most comfortable types of bindings.
- They are mainly used by freeride or freestyle snowboarders.
- They provide a very good feel of the board and a good flex for tricks and turns.
- However, they do not give adequate foot and ankle support.
- They are also more tedious to put on and take off compared to the other types of bindings.
- They are available in low, medium, and high backs that provide different levels of support for the heel and Achilles tendon.
Plate bindings
- Plate bindings are hard-- they are not as comfortable as soft or step-in bindings.
- They are similar to ski bindings.
- They provide better overall support.
- They are commonly used by snowboard racers for carving on the hills and slopes.
- They allow better control of tight turns and help gain lateral support.
- However, they offer less feel of the board.
Step-in Bindings
- Step-in or flow-in bindings are easy to put on and take off.
- They are ideal for snowboarding beginners.
- They provide good edge control.
Baseless bindings
- Baseless bindings keep the soles of the snowboarding boots in direct contact with the snowboard deck.
- Their lack of baseplates provides riders with an enhanced the feel of the board.
However, they can be difficult to adjust and aggravate toe drag. They are preferred by some halfpipe and park riders because of their quick-edge response.

Backplate: Choose snowboard bindings with shorter backplates if you are a freestyler or if you want more flexibility or turning power. If you are an Alpine rider, get those with taller and stiffer highbacks for greater edge control.
Straps: Look for snowboard bindings with two or three Velcro straps for added support and more control of the board.
Plates: Choose snowboard bindings with plates that fit your snowboard boots. Make sure to bring them along when looking for snowboard bindings.
