Soccer Ball : What is it?
| Soccer balls are air-filled spheres made of rubber or synthetic leather. They have a circumference of 27 to 28 inches and a weight of 14 to 16 ounces. They come in three sizes: size 3 for children and young players, size 4 for intermediate players, and size 5 for professional adult players. Most soccer balls have 32 panels stitched in waterproof leather, rubber, or plastic outer covers. These panels feature 20 regular hexagons and 12 regular pentagons. The first soccer ball configured with this kind of panel system was marketed by Select in Denmark in the 1950s. The configuration became popular throughout Europe in the 1960s. It was promoted worldwide Adidas Telstar, and it became the standard since then. |

Materials: For durability, choose a soccer ball made of rubber. It is inexpensive, waterproof, and does not absorb moisture. Even with frequent use, it does not become heavy and slow like a leather soccer ball.
