Types of Softball Gloves

Kinds of Softball Gloves include the following:

Softball fielding gloves

Softball fielding gloves are used by infield and outfield softball players.
They are 11 to 13 inches long.
The shorter gloves are used by the second base and shortstop infielders for fast throws and turns to the first base.
The larger gloves are used by the third base infielders and outfielders for increased range to catch sharp balls and top fly pitches.
They have deep pockets for maximum grip and palm pads for cushioning against the sting of catching hard throws and hits.

Softball catcher gloves

Softball catcher gloves are heavily padded to absorb the blows of very fast pitches.
They have increased pocket sizes that protect the hands from the sting of receiving high-speed throws.
They come in right and left hand throws.
They have an approximate circumference of 33 inches.

Softball first base gloves

Softball first base gloves are designed for catching the fast pitches made by the first base players.
They have narrow wrist openings and slim fingerstalls for a snug fit.
They have locking systems for the pinkies and thumbs for better ball control and grip.
Their straps are made of Velcro for a more snug fit.

Choosing Softball Gloves (Buying tips)

Materials used: Choose a leather softball glove for maximum comfort and durability. It conforms to your hand shape and becomes softer with frequent use. Unlike a synthetic softball glove, it allows your hand to expand and release warmth.

Skill level: If you are a recreational softball player or a beginner, choose an inexpensive yet durable synthetic softball glove. You can buy a more expensive leather softball glove when you get better at the sport.

Extra padding: Choose a softball glove with extra padding in the finger and palm areas to prevent your hand from stinging or bruising when catching hard or fastballs.

Fit: Choose a snug-fitting softball glove to give you a better feel and grip of the ball, and prevent it from slipping.

Hand designation: Choose a “full right” softball glove if you throw with your left hand and catch with your right. If you throw with your right hand and catch with your left, get a “regular” softball glove.
