Tandem Bicycle : What is it?
| The tandem bicycle is essentially an extended-length bike that has two or more seats and two or more pedal sets. The speed and power of a tandem bicycle is about the same as a regular bicycle because even if it has double the pedalling power, it still has the same wind resistance as a single-rider bike. The front rider of the tandem bicycle is known as the steersman, captain, or pilot. The rear rider is called the navigator, stoker, or rear admiral. Older tandem bicycles were made by welding two bicycle frames together. Modern tandem bicycles are now made with improved frame designs and components to take on the added stress and weight of the multiple riders. |
